Sierra Problems

I updated to Sierra and now the app store will not open, Photos will not open, i am not sure what is going on. Has anyone else experienced this problem?

I understand that after updating to macOS Sierra, some of your apps are not opening. I know it's important for your computer to work as expected, so I'm happy to help.

Do any apps open as expected?

To start, let's reset your SMC. This can often help with performance issues such as this:

Reset the System Management Controller (SMC) on your Mac - Apple Support

If this doesn't help, then let's test this issue in another user account. Follow the steps here to do so:

Only about half of the apps open and resetting the SMC did not work and i am on the only user account on the computer

Thanks for the followup and additional details. By testing in a new user account, we are able to further isolate the cause of this issue. The article that was shared about testing in a new user also includes the steps for creating a user if you don't already have one.

Please follow all of the steps in that article, and then use the steps here to test it in safe mode as well:
